The annual High Plains Snow Goose Festival and Farm City Banquet both received marketing funding from the Prowers Lodging Tax Panel this past Tuesday, October 15, during the monthly board meeting.
The Snow Goose Festival will receive $5,672 to advertise the February 2014 event in local, area, regional and national advertising publications. The three-day event is attended by an average of 100 visitors to the Prowers County area for the gathering.
This year’s Farm City Banquet, set for November 15, will feature Nashville recording artist, Clare Dunn, a former resident of southeast Colorado who has spent the past several years performing around the country and recording in Nashville. The amount granted was $6,459. This year the banquet will be marketed as more of a musical concert, while still raising funding for regional FFA groups who prepare and serve the evening meal. The concert and meal will continue to be held at the Lamar Community Building.
Panel President, Pat Palmer, reviewed the local success of the Pedal the Plains event in which just over 800 persons registered to ride their bicycles around southeast Colorado for three days this past September. Another 150 persons provided backup support for the riders during their overnight stay in Lamar. Palmer believed it would be beneficial for a local organization or groups to develop and host a similar 100 mile or less event to coincide with next year’s Oktoberfest. No specific plans were made beyond the initial idea.
