Connie Barnes Craig passed away on June 29, 2013 at home in Evans, CO, with her family by her side following a 2 year battle with Pancreatic cancer. Connie was born February 2, 1949, to Fred and Ida Barnes in Elkhart Kansas.
Connie graduated from Elkhart High School in 1967. She attended Southern Nazarene University, Panhandle A&M, and Lamar Community College.
Connie met the “Love of her Life” in Elkhart in 1969. She and Wesley were married in 1970 and farmed in western Kansas and eastern Colorado for 14 years. While living in Holly, CO, Connie enjoyed working with children of all ages in 4H and at the Wesleyan Church in Syracuse, KS. The Craig family moved to Lamar where Connie began her accounting career. Dodge City, KS, was home for 8 years while Connie worked for D.C. Community College and then for Linberg & Vogel. Greeley has been her home for the past 10 year where she has been employed at Crop Production Services in the Accounting Department.
Connie and Wesley have enjoyed traveling to visit their 3 sons while each of them was living in different states advancing their careers. Connie loved and enjoyed her family, cooking, family gatherings, sewing, decorating their home and gardening. Connie attended the Cowboy Church in Lucerne where she was especially challenged in the Tuesday evening services.
She is survived by her husband, Wesley; sons, Preston of Louisville, Spencer (Mary) and granddaughter Ella of Colorado Springs, Michael of Greeley; sister Barbara (Ronald) Crosley of Elkhart, KS; brothers Ernie (Marsha) Barnes of Elkhart, KS, Lynn (Betty) Scott of New Kirk, OK; sister-in-law Janet (John) Kurtz of Denver; along with several nieces and nephews from the Barnes and Craig families.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Phillip Scott and Freddie Barnes; sisters Dorothy Scott, Patricia Wesbrook and Shirlene Lackquement.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, July 5, 2013 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel with a reception to follow at the Allnutt Reception Center. A graveside inurnment is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at Elkhart Morton County Cemetery in Elkhart, KS.
