Women invited to Granby’s “Cast ‘n Blast” clinic
Women interested in learning the basics of fly fishing, shotguns and proper firearm handling are invited to a women-only “Cast ‘N Blast” clinic in Granby, Saturday, June 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Designed for beginners, no experience or equipment is required. Participants are advised to dress for the elements and bring all necessary supplies, including water, insect repellent and sunscreen.  Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided.   The class costs $20 and pre-registration is required. Call Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Hot Sulphur Springs office at 970-725-6200. Space is limited and the seminar is expected to fill quickly. Participants are reminded that the class is not a Hunter Education course, which is required to purchase a hunting license. To find a Hunter Education course, go to www.bit.ly/huntereducation, or call your local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office. “Cast N Blast” is offered through Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Hunter Outreach Program. The program includes workshops, clinics, seminars and educational hunts that focus on teaching the skills, ethics and traditions of hunting to novice youth and women.

Lake Pueblo State Park issues safety advisory
The staff at Lake Pueblo State Park is asking people to use extreme caution in and around the Arkansas River below the Pueblo Reservoir due to highly fluctuating flows. The warning pertains to boating, fishing and other recreating along the river shorelines. In contrast to the high flows on the river below the dam, the lake levels of the Pueblo Reservoir continue to drop. There is still plenty of water to boat, fish and enjoy, but the shoreline around the lake can be soft and muddy in places. Anglers and people driving to the water’s edge for shoreline access should be careful and take precautions to avoid being stuck.

Trout stocked at Beaver Creek Reservoir
Colorado Parks and Wildlife stocked 8,000 catchable-size rainbow trout June 13 in Beaver Creek Reservoir in the San Luis Valley. The reservoir level is drawn down to accommodate dam repairs, but there’s plenty of water for fishing. The reservoir is located in Rio Grande County, southeast of the town of South Fork on Forest Service Road 350. The water is too low to launch motorized boats from the existing ramp. Accessing the water requires walking down the steep-sided slopes of the reservoir, so anglers are urged to be careful. Besides the new rainbows, anglers could also find brown trout and some kokanee salmon. Colorado Parks and Wildlife has started a construction project to repair the 100-year-old dam structure. The reservoir will be completely drained early next year. If the project continues on schedule the reservoir will be refilled in 2015.

Boyd Lake State Park hosts fishing clinic
Loveland Fishing Club members and Colorado Parks and Wildlife representatives will be on site to teach youngsters and their families how to fish. The clinic is on Saturday, June 22, and it runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is aimed at children ages five to 16. Parents or participants above the age of 16 must have a fishing license. Loaner poles and bait will be provided. Be sure to reserve your spot and pole by calling 970- 669-1739, ext. 19. Come learn fishing tips and about the fish that live in Boyd Lake.
