Yellow Tail, Middle Sister, Purple Cowboy, Pro-mis-Q-ous and Cupcake were some of the brands of wine sampled during The Lamar Chamber of Commerce’s Fourth Annual, “Wine Down and Un-cork”, wine tasting event held this past Friday. The wine tasting, held this year at the Lamar Elks Lodge, featured plenty of delicacies and varieties of wines from local retailers in Lamar.
Several chamber board of director members were helping serve sampling of wines and plates of food from behind the tables as the over-21 crowd sampled some of their favorite or brand new wine tastes from A and B Liquors, Coronica’s, Olive Street Station and Corner Wine and Liquor. Scott Androes, a national distributor who serves southeast Colorado package stores, served as the sommelier for the gathering, dispensing his knowledge about the wines at his table and reds and whites in general. Although there were the usual samplings of a Shiraz, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio or Beaujolais…there were new brand names to become acquainted with for future reference, including Marilyn Monroe Strawberry Vodka.
The gathering sampled a range of different hors d’oeuvres from the Rodeway Cow Palace Inn, the new restaurant in Wiley; Robles Grille, the Eagles Lodge, Robbie Sue’s Catering, Colorado Mills and American Family Insurance. The night was highlighted by a drawing for two door prizes at the conclusion of the evening as well as for several bottles of sunflower oil, processed locally by Colorado Mills.
