Members of the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Honkers raised funds for two local non-profit groups this past summer from a comedy performance they organized with help from the Lamar Eagles Aerie.
Checks for $325.00 were presented to SECCI, Southeast Colorado Cancer Initiative and Remember Foundation by Honker members. The Remember Foundation was organized this past year and is comprised mostly by members of the local medical community. Their goal is to aid local families and victims of Alzheimer’s disease. SECCI, in operation for over a decade, has helped aid local cancer patients with funds used for expenses in their cancer treatments. All of the funds donated to these organizations are used locally.
2 for the Road Entertainment, owned by Adam Vocke and Larry Lundstrum of Fort Morgan provided the comedic entertainment for this summer’s appearance at the Lamar Eagles Aerie. Vocke and Lundstum do some stand-up work for the audience, and this past July was accompanied by noted comedienne Lori Callahan, along with Elliot Woolsey. Plans are in the works to have another Comedy Night as soon as this January.
The Honkers are planning a grown-up Halloween Costume Party and Dance for Saturday, October 27 from 7:00 PM to Midnight, at the Hott Spott at 1104 East Olive Street in Lamar. It will be $10 at the door with Live Music, Drink Specials and Prizes for Best Costumes. A majority of the proceeds will be donated again to SECCI and the Remember Foundation.
