Mildred E. Crockett was born on October 5, 1924 in Lucas, South Dakota to Ernest and Laura (Kenzy) Shonrock, and departed this life on Wednesday September 26, 2012 at the Bethesda Meadow Nursing Home in Ellisville, Missouri at the age of 87.

Although she lived in rural South Dakota, she was determined to finish high school.   So she and her sister Kaye earned their board and room during the school year with families in Cottonwood, SD.  After graduation she worked in Rapid City for a governmental agency.  In 1946 she married Thomas Austin O’Dea and three children were born, Shelia, Sandra, and Michael.  Tom was a construction superintendent for Campsey and Sons during the 50’s and they traveled wherever the jobs took them.  In 1961 they moved to Eads and purchased their business which they ran until Tom’s death in 1967.  During her time in Eads she worked at the ASC office and later as a Clerk of the District Court.

In 1974 she married Remer Crockett and moved to the farm in Towner.  Remer passed away in 1994, but she continued to farm until 1998 when she sold it and moved to the little house she loved in Lamar. Mrs. Crockett was preceded in death by her parents; by her first husband – Thomas O’Dea; by her second husband – Remer Crockett; and by one daughter – Sandra K. “Sandy” Chavez as well as her siblings; Alvin Ernest, Leo, Kaye, Audrey and Sheila.

She was the glue that held our family together and will be missed by one son – Michael (Dana) O’Dea of Shawnee, KS; by one daughter – Shelia (Al Thompson) Rittgers of Ellisville, MO; by five grandchildren – David (Anna) Rittgers of Sanford, NC; Kristy Chavez of Aurora, IL; Andrew (Michele) Rittgers of St. Louis, MO; Mary (Eddie Geddis) Rittgers of Denver, CO; and Kiara O’Dea of Shawnee, KS; and by three great grandchildren – Aidan Rittgers; Nolan Rittgers; and James Rittgers; also surviving are other relatives and a host of friends.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to your local hospice either direct or in care of the Peacock Funeral Home – 209 South 4th St.; Lamar, Colorado 81052.
