The Lamar All Stars, 12 & Under team needs some financial help for their journey to the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, MD in about one week from now. The team will be flying from Denver to Maryland from Denver on August 9, and a lot of fundraising work is underway between now and then.
Several fundraisers are being scheduled to help the team pay for their stay in the World Series match up August 10 through the 19th as they represent Lamar, the State of Colorado and the Midwest Plains Region in the annual competition.
Four hundred tickets will be sold at $10 apiece for a half a beef donated by John Sutphin Sr. from the Sutphin Cattle Company, including processing. Tickets are available from team members, with the drawing set for Monday, August 20, once the Series has ended. The team will fly with their coaches from Denver. Travel expenses for those parents going to Maryland will be paid by themselves. A BBQ send off has been set for Willow Creek Park this Sunday, August 5, at 4pm, and some other fund-raising events are being planned and general donations will be welcome. Thriftway, Safeway and Walmart are contributing to the community meal, and any proceeds will go to team expenses. Donations may be made at Valley National Bank, at an established account, 12 and Under All Stars.
The 12 and Under All Stars will be introduced as part of the opening ceremonies for the local 14 and Under Tournament at Merchant’s Park at 9:30. Some team members coaches will take part in an on-air fundraiser this Monday, August 6 on KLMR, during the ‘Anything Goes’ program between 7am and 8am.
