The Prowers Journal highlight a featured Business of the Week.

This week we are proud to spotlight the Welcome Home Child and Family Development Center located in Lamar. Call them at: 719.336-1200.

Welcome Home Child and Family Development Center, located at 607 Savage Avenue, is a county owned child care facility operated by the Prowers County Department of Social Services. The facility began caring for children in March of 2000. The Center has the capacity for 10 Infants, 32 Toddlers, and 122 Preschool through school age children. Welcome Home employs 14 highly qualified early childhood teachers who love working and caring for children and families. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.

The Center provides children with a daily nutritious breakfast, lunch and snack prepared in the on-site commercial kitchen. Welcome Home utilizes the Creative Curriculum for all age groups as well as participating in the Prowers County Live Well 5-2-1-0 program, Food Friends and Mighty Moves programs. Children are continuously learning, playing, and experiencing many different activities throughout the day. Some activities offered to children are reading, singing, science, art, drama, dancing, outdoor play, swimming during the summer and educational field trips. Parents are able to view their children’s classrooms via the Internet so that they can “see” their child at any time. Head Start, operated by Child Development Services of Otero Junior College, is a separate program located in the building.

In addition to traditional child care, Welcome Home offers preschool to children ages three through five through the Colorado Preschool Program. This is a preschool program that runs concurrently with the school district calendar. The Center has an after school program that serves between 15 to 30 school age children with a van pick-up service to all local elementary schools including Alta Vista. Space is available for Friday no-school care.

Staff at Welcome Home Child and Family Development Center would like to thank all the children, families, and community who have supported the Center the past twelve years. Please contact Courtney Holt-Rogers at 336-1200 for further information.
