Big Timbers History Corner #10 – Cigarette Holder
VPG | Jul 07, 2012 | Comments 0
Talk about a connection to history! If you go out to Big Timbers Museum and find this case (near the Fleagle Bank Robbery display), you will be inches away from this cigarette holder which was once personally owned and used by President Franklin D. Roosevelt! You could theoretically clone him from this! (If you had the training, the lab, the funding and the overpowering urge to do so, of course.) The card states FDR gave it to Newton P. Larrick when Newt was in the US Air Force.
Speaking of history, you won’t want to miss this month’s General Meeting of the Prowers County Historical Society. (July 19th, 7 pm at the museum) The presentation is on famous political figures with a historical connection to Prowers County. We will also be hearing from the candidates running for County Commissioner on how the Board of Commissioners and the Prowers County Historical Society can best share the responsibility of preserving our heritage at Big Timbers Museum
Of course you don’t have to wait until the 19th to visit the museum. You are always welcome! Admission is only $3 for individuals; $5 lets you bring the whole family for a fun learning experience that also helps preserve our Prowers County heritage for future generations. Open 10 am to 5 pm Tues-Sat. Call 336-2472 for more details.
