Music Fans Turn Out for Holly Bluegrass Festival

Saturday Audience for Blue Grass Festival

Shade was at a premium at the 10^th Annual Holly Bluegrass Festival this past weekend.  Hundreds of area residents gathered under tents and trees on Saturday to escape the heat and to listen to the bluegrass bands entertain the crowds.

Saturday’s breakfast in the park was provided by the Holly high school cheerleaders and food booths were set up and staffed by the class of 2013 through 2015, offering such fare as sloppy joes, a Mexican plate,  pulled pork plates, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, along with nachos, burgers and hot dogs.  They did a brisk business in beverages.  Several vendors were on hand at Gateway Park, including the CSU Extension office, raffling tickets for a 2012 Ford XLT F150.

Emcee Ty Harmon Introduces the Next Act

KLMR morning announcer, Ty Harmon, emceed the events of the day, providing some background on various acts including Dr. Harlan’s Amazing Bluegrass Tonic, Crooked Creek, Kantankerous, Bonham Revue and Karl Shiflet and Big Country Show.

Kantankerous Performs for the Audience

Area musicians were given a chance to show off their talent with a Friday and Saturday night jam session.  The annual event, Colorado’s only free bluegrass festival, was capped with a community church and bluegrass gospel music provided by the Blackwood Brothers Quartet.
