Lamar Rotary Hosts Ducky Dash Winners

“We earned about $7,200 from the Ducky Dash sales,” said Mike Renkin of the Lamar Rotary this past Thursday.  Renkin was referring to the Rotary’s annual Ducky Dash race held on Sunday’s during Lamar Days activities.  Tickets are sold for the fundraiser and prizes awarded to the first three ducks that pass the finish line in the Lamar Canal. 

Jana Weimer won $750 for having her duck place first; Franco Northrup won $500 and Deloach’s Water won third place and $250.  Rotary President, Karen Ketchan said, “The funds will go to support a lot of activities in our area, principally the purchase of hundreds of dictionaries we give away each year to elementary students.”  She said the Rotary also supports local student scholarships, and Renkin said one of the community projects the Rotary will support this year is donating bleachers at Escondido Park in Lamar. 

The Thursday weekly meeting was also highlighted by information on the summer and fall semester courses at Lamar Community College, presented by Director of Recruiting, Brenda Brown, and Christa DiMaio-Richie, Project Director for the Title Three program at the college described the courses for renewable energy technologies which will be offered to LCC students in the fall.
