3rd Street Nest Bed and Breakfast became part of the Lamar Chamber of Commerce community on May 14, 2004. The Bed and Breakfast is located at 304 South 3rd Street, and the house is 103 years old. The Filoons built the house as part of their retirement after farming and living in a Soddy. Dixie Monroe, a former Lamar High School English teacher, remembers living in the block to the south, and rollerskating by in the 1920s and greeting Mrs. Filoon by name. Mrs. Dorothy Watson owned the home for 40 years. She also ran a small boarding house (renting rooms upstairs to college students) and operated a hair dressing shop for many years in the north front room.

Jane Felter and her father, Elmer Roberts, renovated the house specifically as a Bed and Breakfast. Everything was brought up to code and visitors from around the world and USA have enjoyed the charm of the 103 year old Victorian home. Birds, nests and bird houses are part of the décor and every holiday is observed. Two guest areas are available! The Lavender ‘n Lace Suite is located on the main floor of the home. A large bedroom with queen size bed, whirlpool tub-shower combination and small living room are offered there. Upstairs, the Garden Room, with queen size bed, has a detached large bathroom. A clawfoot tub and walk-in shower occupy the bath. A continental breakfast is served during the week or a delicious, full, hot breakfast is served on the weekends. Special requests are also accommodated. Snacks, bottled water, soft drinks, cable TV, outdoor hot tub, free wireless internet and robes are furnished. The “nest” is located two blocks from downtown and behind the courthouse.

On the south side of the house is a quarter of an acre with pergola and fountain. It is available for weddings and parties. Seventy-five white wedding chairs and white shade canopies are also supplied. 3rd Street Nest Bed and Breakfast is open seven days a week and if you would care to visit, please call Jane Felter at 719-336-5217. She would be pleased to show you the place and/or make a reservation.
