Members of the Prowers County Farm Bureau were on hand as Gary Melcher was presented with a $2,500 check from the Monsanto Foundation this past Wednesday, April 18.  Melcher was selected for the Monsanto Fund’s, America’s Farmers Grow Communities.  Melcher was selected from eligible farmers from 1,245 counties in 39 states.  His check will be donated to a local non-profit organization of his choice.

Fontanelle representative Kurt Wilson said the program helps put investments back in rural areas of the country, by supporting various organizations that work to aid their local communities.  Some representative organizations that have received the donations include ag youth groups such as FFA or 4H, fire and police departments, local schools or other civic oriented organizations.  Nearly 60,000 farmers across the country participated in the program and one winning farmer was selected in each eligible county.  Melcher selected Prowers County Farm Bureau as the recipient.
