Lamar Parade of Lights, Candy Cane Festival Kicks off Holiday Season

Area residents braved the pre-winter chill this past Friday evening for the annual, Lamar Chamber of Commerce, Parade of Lights. This year’s theme highlighted Lamar’s 125th anniversary, carrying forward the traditions that were observed for Lamar Days this past May.
By 6:30pm the floats and entries were set to go, traveling north on Main Street from the Municipal Swimming Pool to downtown and Hickory Street. The floats went west, while Santa’s special train turned east onto Beech Street, journeying through the Enchanted Forest, through Silvey’s Mountain and came to rest at Santa’s Workshop where families were assembling for their annual visit with the jolly old elf. The event kicked off the two day Candy Cane Festival in which various retail stores in Lamar were offering discounts and sales on their merchandise. Saturday’s snowy weather canceled the scheduled Arts and Artifacts day at Big Timbers Museum. It will be held at the same time this Saturday, December 10th.
The first, second and third place Parade float winners are:
1st Place Cooks Towing
2nd Place Lamar Subway
3rd Place Girl Scouts
