Veteran’s Day Observances Scheduled

Area Veterans are invited to attend the Lamar VA Clinic Open House this Thursday, November 10

In June of this year, Prowers Medical Group opened the Lamar VA Clinic. It has been an honor to serve the Veterans in the southeast Colorado region. Prowers Medical Group is proud to announce that we recently received notification that our contract to provide these healthcare services to Veterans has been extended. Prowers Medical Group is committed to this partnership with the Department of Veterans Affairs and serving our local Veterans. We will continue to work towards expanding services and providing the best health care services possible.

To celebrate our continued partnership as well as Veterans Day, we are hosting an open house at our Lamar VA Clinic located at 403 Kendall Drive. The open house will be held from 10 am – 2 pm on Thursday, November 10th. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. This is also the community’s opportunity to meet the healthcare providers associated with our clinic. We hope that you will join us at this special celebration.

Patient Care for the VA Clinic is coordinated by Steven Givan, RN Care Manager and Shirley Moore serves as the clinic’s Clerical Associate. To receive care at the Lamar VA Clinic, Veterans must be pre-approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. For additional information regarding services at the Lamar VA Clinic, Veterans should call 719-336-7155 or (Toll Free) at 855-779-0833.

Please join us on Thursday, November 10th.

Wreaths Across America Observed at Fairmount Cemetery this December

Colorado is one of 50 states observing Wreaths Across America December 10, at 10am at Fairmount Cemetery, Veterans Section. The observance will be assisted by the local VFW and American Legion Posts, who will conduct the traditional playing of taps and a firing of a 21 gun salute, honoring our nation’s veterans. The public is invited to join the occasion as seven ceremonial wreaths will be set in place at the cemetery, remembering soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen who served and sacrificed for our nation’s freedom. Similar ceremonies are being conducted at 24 national ceremonies in foreign countries.

The occasion marks the third year in a row that the Las Animas Ladies Auxiliary Post #2411 hosts the Wreaths Across America program. Anyone who wishes to purchase a wreath for Las Animas or Lamar may do so at a cost of $15. Contact Kathleen Tomlin in Las Animas at 456-2948, or in Lamar, Peacock Funeral Home at 336-2234. Purchased wreaths will be placed on veteran’s graves all across the country for December 10.

Peacock Funeral Home is distributing free Christmas stockings to take home, decorate and fill with holiday gifts for overseas troops. A list of suggested items is also provided. The funeral home asks that the stockings be returned to them by December 1 for free shipping overseas.
