Gerald R. Smith…April 1, 1936 – November 11, 2011

    A Graveside Celebration of Life Memorial Service and in-urnment for longtime Lamar resident and former businessman Gerald R. “Jerry” Smith will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday November 18, 2011 at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar, Colorado. Pastor Kathy Leathers will officiate.
    Per Jerry’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no public visitation.
    Mr. Smith was born on April 1, 1936 at Lebo, Kansas and departed this life on Friday November 11, 2011 at his home in Lamar with his family at his side at the age of 75.
    Jerry was preceded in death by his father Raymond E. Smith of Lamar, CO. on May 10, 1962; by his mother Georgia M. Smith of Lamar, CO. on January 17, 2003; by one sister Judith Shiflette of Missouri; by a nephew Tom Shumate of Minnesota; and by a grand- nephew Colin Shumate of the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.
    He is survived by his wife of 57 years Merle Smith of their home in Lamar; by two daughters Carrie (Mike) Campbell of Flagler, CO. and Terrie (Steve) Zortman of Fowler, KS.; by two grandchildren Nolan (Jennifer) Campbell of Colorado Springs, CO. and Holly Campbell of Flagler, CO.; and by a sister Willa Jean (Bennie) Shumate of Lamar, CO.; Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, an aunt Pat Judd of Lamar as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
