LeRoy was born on May 11, 1942 in La Sal, Utah to William and Ruth Harrington. He departed this life on October 2, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Denver from a lengthy illness.
LeRoy received his education in Nebraska and Colorado.|
He was a typical little boy, full of teasing and getting into mischief. He started working at age 13 at odd jobs until he went in the service.
He joined the Army serving his country for 13 years. He spent time in Germany and served in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. While in the military he was a cook and was diligent in preparing great meals for the troops. He was known as “Sarge Harrington” and the name “Sarge” stuck with him till his death.
He enjoyed preparing the family holiday dinners while home on leave from the service. He was proud to be and American and proud to have served his country. Patriotism was a big part of his life. After the military he made his living by managing service stations, restaurants, and motels. He also did some landscaping.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his father, William Harrington, his mother, Ruth Ray, his step-father, Archie Ray and four brothers; William, George, Robert and Henry.
He is survived by three sisters; Doris Parsons of Lamar, Myrtle (Don) Tayloe of Lamar and Joyce (Gary) Turner of Oklahoma. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Services were held at Peacock Funeral Home on October 7, 2011 with Ian Blacker of the Lamar Christian Church officiating. Musical Selections were; “Amazing Grace”, “Wings Of A Dove” and “The Old Rugged Cross”.
Serving as casket bearers were; Tony Peck, Stan Brinkley, Eldon Longworth, Garry Longworth, Richard Cox and Mark Lawrence.
Interment followed the services at Fairmount Cemetery in the Veteran’s Section with full military honors and flag presentation by the Lamar V.F.W Post # 3621 and the Lamar American Legion Post # 71.
