DECA Week

As DECA week approached, DECA members rushed to get activities together, signs finished, and food ready. This year DECA week was October 10th through October 13th. DECA week always consist, of festive days, this year’s days were: Movie Monday, Tame Your Tummy Tuesday, Wild Wednesday, and Tough-Enough Thursday.
DECA started off its week with “Movie Monday”. Members sold donuts and juice before school in the commons for $1. Staff and students wore their pajamas to school. Later that day, DECA had a movie night in the school auditorium from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The students purchased their tickets for $5. This included walking tacos, pop, water, and popcorn.
Tuesday also known as “Tame Your Tummy Tuesday”. DECA members sold burritos for $2 and baked goods in the commons before school. A pencil hunt took place during the day. Prizes were given to those that found and brought the hidden pencils to Ms. Martin.
From tummy taming to wild-going, Wednesday brought the wild and fun. “Wild Wednesday”, the students were encouraged to come as crazy as they could. Ice cream was for sale for $1 afterschool in the commons.
DECA week came to an end with “Tough Enough Thursday”. Staff and students were welcomed to wear DECA colors or shirts. Pop, pop, pop! Popcorn and water was sold for $1 during school. Students could have brought tickets for $1 each to support the football coach of their choice for the bench-off contest. The winning tickets got out 10 minutes early the following Monday for lunch. The bench-off was the event that raised the largest amount of money towards Project Mercy.
All profits during DECA week will be donated to Project Mercy. DECA donates to Project Mercy every year. The money helps support DECA projects in Ethiopia which include libraries, meals, and education for children in need. The Lamar High school DECA raised $678.00 for Project Mercy.
