A funeral service for lifetime Lamar resident, Verda A. Wilkening, will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday September 22, 2011 at the Peacock Family Chapel in Lamar. Pastor Harold Bohl will officiate the service and burial will follow in the Veteran’s Section of Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar.
Visitation for Verda will be held from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday September 21, 2011 and prior to the service on Thursday at the Peacock Family Chapel in Lamar.
Mrs. Wilkening was born on March 12, 1942 in Lamar, Colorado to Marion Garrison and Lola Mae (Rusmisel) Garrison and departed this life on Sunday September 18, 2011 at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the age of 69.
Verda was preceded in death by her parents; by one brother – Clifford Garrison; by three sisters – Pat Jackson; Paula Cole; and Janice Fearno; and by one grandson – Seth Allen Marsh.
Verda is survived by her husband – Joe Wilkening of the family home in Lamar; by two daughters – Roxanne Wilkening of Great Bend, KS; and Loretta (Donnie) Marsh of Wiley, CO; by one son – Jim Bob Wilkening of Lakin, KS; by three grandchildren; and by one great grandchild; by three brothers – Carl (Jill) Garrison of Ordway, CO; Gale Pete Garrison of Lamar; and Jack (Betty) Garrison of Hasty, CO; also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.
