Recall Petition Rejected, Needs Revising

Audrey Kane, Designated Election Official at Prowers Medical Center, has rejected a petition request, filed though the Prowers County District Court. The petition, filed on August 25, 2011 by Barbara Kuenzel and Joan Hanff, PMC employees, requests a recall vote for Candy Ruedeman and Marge Campbell, both members of the hospital’s board of directors.
On August 29, Kane determined the application (petitioner’s committee, petition title and text and proposed petition) did not comply with various state statutes and will need correcting before the recall election bid can progress. Both Kuenzel and Hanff have been notified of the rejection by Kane, as well as Ruedeman and Campbell.
Kane stated that she believed a corrected version of the petition application would be filed through the District Court and to her office in the near future. In general, the corrections that must be made include: at least three committee members need to be identified in the petition application, a notice given that only a legally registered voter can sign the petition, and that there will be no form of payment of monetary compensation made to induce anyone to sign the petition.
