NLNAC Site Visit to LCC a Huge Success

The Lamar Community College Nursing program hosted a site review for initial accreditation of its Associate Degree in Nursing program by the National League for Nursing Accreditation Commission, Inc. (NLNAC) on September 20-22, 2011.
LCC and the Nursing program met or exceeded expectations in all six standards related to excellence in the areas of mission and administrative capacity, faculty & staff, students, curriculum, resources, and outcomes. The site review team noted community support and the program’s RN to BSN partnership with the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs as areas of strength.
“I am proud of the outcomes of excellence achieved by the Nursing faculty. These positive outcomes paved the way for a successful site visit,” commented Dr. Sandy Summers, LCC Nursing program director. “We have truly entered into pathways of excellence. This review further validates the evidence-based teaching strategies and evaluation methods that we have implemented in every nursing course.”
LCC Nursing faculty and staff include Sandy Summers, DNP, FNP-BC; Kathy Henderson, MSN, ANP; Mary Ann Turner, MSN-E, Nancy Winsor MSN-E; and Nursing Program Admission Coordinator, Mary Lou Myers.
Two additional steps remain in the process, before final accreditation status is determined. Next spring, an external review panel will evaluate the site review team’s conclusions as well as LCC’s application materials then give its conclusion. Later, the NLNAC will meet for final determinations.
