Eagles Host Annual Fish Fry

Food and Beer Tent at Rear of Lamar Eagles Lodge

Lamar was a busy town this past Saturday and Sunday.  The World Series Softball games got underway over the weekend, the downtown merchants held a day-long sidewalk sale and the Lamar Eagles Lodge, #3898 held their annual fish fry on Saturday.

Area residents must have been hungry and thirsty, as although there were some early eaters between 11am and noon, most of the crowds showed up at the beer tent in the rear of the Lodge and the food line waiting to get lunch.  For as little as $7 people enjoyed deep fried Alaskan Pollock, two kinds of hush puppies, some baked beans and beer.  The Lamar Honkers were also busy selling ears of roasted butter and sugar corn for a dollar.

The annual fish fry is an extension of the Division of Game and Wildlife fish fry that used to be held at John Martin Reservoir for numerous years.  In recent times, the fish fry has been held at the Eagles Lodge, the Shore Arts Center and the county fairgrounds.  Off and on, the fish fry has been an annual event for about 75 years.
