June Lamar City Sales Tax Shows Year to Date Gain

Sales and Use Tax collections this year, from January to June, showed a 3.83%, or $59,295.41 increase over last year at this time.  However, Total Sales and Use Tax collections for May were down 1.17% for a drop of just under $3,000.  City sales tax for that period was up 1.39%, but Use Tax collected was down by 38% for a drop of $7,671.

June 2011 tax collections were mixed in the twelve retail sales categories compiled by the city treasurer’s office, compared to 2010.  There were small decreases in Clothing and Shoes, Restaurants, Liquor Stores and Building Materials plus Department Stores.  Small gains were noted in  C Stores and Gas Stations, Manufacturing and Grocery Stores. 

Year-to-Date comparisons also showed mixed results for tax collections, with Auto Parts and Vehicle Repairs on the increase, little change between Clothing and Shoes, Furniture and Appliances and Liquor Stores.  There were more significant advances for Motels and Hotels, Grocery Stores Gas Stations and C Stores. 

Total Sales and Use Tax Collections for Lamar to date are $1,608,168.40, compared to $1,548,872.99 for the same period last year.
