The 2011 World Series Committee toured Citizen’s Field Wednesday morning, July 6, to allocate booth and tent spaces for the ballgames this August. Locations were determined for the medical and hospitality tent, Lamar Welcome Center tent, gift table, information table and others sites. Rick Akers, Lamar Leisure Services Director, said the field will be closed for the last week in July and first week in August so grounds crews can prepare the field to host the games.
The gift bags that will be given to the players and coaches were displayed for the committee players and coaches once the teams for the 16 and Under Babe Ruth Softball World Series have been finalized. All players will receive an assortment of items, including a backpack, commemorative keychain and souvenirs. The committee also viewed the colored wristbands which will be used for admission to the games beginning Saturday, August 6. Tickets for the games are on sale at Prowers County Development Incorporated. Tickets for the August 5 banquet at Lamar Community College’s Wellness Center will go on sale for $15 per person.
Volunteers are still needed, especially Ambassadors to the 10 teams and bat boys and girls. Ambassadors to the teams will be girls, ages 10-14 and bat boys or girls for the games will also be in that age group. Those selected must be available for the duration of the games, August 6 through the 13, as well as the orientation period, August 4 and 5. If you are interested, contact Carla Scranton at PCDI at 336-2384. Committee chairman, Craig Brooks, displayed the design options for the tee shirts that will be available for the players and public and the committee made a final selection on the wording and style.
The committee pointed out that signs prohibiting open beverage containers or coolers past a certain point at the Sports Complex will be displayed. There is a concern that alcohol, which is prohibited at the Complex, could be brought to the games in that manner. The committee meets each Wednesday at the Lamar Chamber of Commerce offices.
