PRESS RELEASE (June 16, 2011)

SYMPOSIUM #2 SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 23rd

The upcoming Colorado Community College Health Information Technology Consortium (COHITECH) Symposium to be held on June 23, 2011, is the 2nd in a series of 3 which are being hosted by Lamar Community College (LCC). This follows a successful 1st Symposium [April 30, 2011], and will emphasize HEALTH Information Technology DESIGN.

This non-credit COHITECH 1-day Health IT Design Symposium offering provides an overview of the National Health IT Design Certificate Program, one of four Health IT Roles currently offered at LCC. Kenneth Maestas is the Director and Coordinator of these programs and can be contacted at Kenneth.Maestas@lamarcc.edu or 1.719.336.1538.

The HITECH Act is a big portion of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) enacted by Congress in 2009. Under this federally mandated program, all paper health records must be digitized in a nationwide and uniform system (Electronic Health Records (EHRs)) by 2014.

LCC is one of only four Colorado Community Colleges around the state to be awarded an ARRA Grant to teach these vital and necessary programs. They are designed to introduce current health care workers, public health and long term care nurses, EMTs, LCC students, plus any community members who are interested in learning more about the integration of Health Care with Technology. HITECH is the future and it’s already here in 2011!

The Symposium is FREE through ARRA Grant Scholarships and is valued at $99.00. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack will be provided.

Please RSVP by latest 12 Noon on Tuesday, June 21st by calling 719-336-1538 or by e-mail to Kenneth.Maestas@lamarcc.edu. You can also call this number with any questions
