Lamar FFA Earns Gold in State Competition

Congratulations to the Lamar FFA Chapter for their recent success at the State Career Development Events held on the CSU – Ft. Collins campus this past week.
The chapter participated in five events including Horse Judging, Livestock Evaluation, Floriculture, Agronomy, and Ag Mechanics.
The Floriculture Team consisted of Callie Brase, Kennadee Oppliger, and Jessie Tecklenburg. The contest consists of plant identification, a comprehensive exam covering general knowledge of floral design and greenhouse use, as well as a floral arrangement design.
The Livestock evaluation team consisted of Ryin Roberts, Tyler Trout, Logan Bender, and Theresa Butler. The contest consists of a comprehensive exam covering general livestock knowledge, evaluation of six classes of market and breeding livestock (Cattle, Sheep, and Swine), Keep/Cull class using performance data and visual evaluation, and evaluation of market cattle Yield and Quality grades.
The Agronomy (Field Crops) Team consisted of Colin Mahanay, Gabe Salazar, and Paul Specht. The contest consisted of crop, seed, and insect identification, a comprehensive exam covering common crop production problems and/or practices encountered in the major crops of Colorado. Congratulations to Paul Specht for receiving a “Bronze” individual medal. This is an amazing accomplishment for a first year ag student! Way to go Paul!
The Ag Mechanics team consisted of Austin Peck, Cierra Medina, and Reed Marts. The contestants competed over two days at the Aims Community College in Greeley. The contest covers construction, tools, machinery, and welding. Congratulations to Reed Marts for receiving a “Gold” individual rating and to all members of the team for receiving a ‘Bronze”!
The Horse Judging Team consisted of Remington Stocking, Bailey Sptiz, Shay Spitz, and Parker Wurst. The contest consisted of judging and placing halter and performance events, as well as presenting one set of oral reasons to explain why they placed the class the way they did. Congratulations to Parker Wurst for receiving a “Bronze” individual rating, Bailey Spitz for receiving a “Silver” rating, and Shay Spitz for receiving a “Gold” rating and overall 4th highest score in the state. Overall the team received a “Gold” award!
