Letter to the Editor-Fireworks Fund Update

Greetings,
I wanted to give all of our partners and those interested the latest on our community fireworks project funding levels. When we combine the existing funds transferred to the City’s fireworks fund by the Lamar/Prowers County Volunteer Fire Department with the various fundraising efforts that have taken place up to this point in 2013 we have a balance of $8,290.83. We already had fireworks left over from the canceled show in 2012 so we only had to supplement the 2013 show in the amount of $2,550.00. We did this because some of the 2012 fireworks were displayed after the concert during the 2012 Sand and Sage Fair. After paying the bill to Tri-State Fireworks for the 2013 show we will have a balance of $5,740.83 in the account to apply toward the 2014 show. This leaves us about $2,260 shy of the amount needed for next year’s show.
I want to express my tremendous gratitude to all businesses, groups, organizations and individuals who contributed in one way or another to our fundraising efforts. We typically have to order the fireworks for a July 4th show around March or April each year. The size of that order will depend upon the amount of money we have available to spend at the time of the order. If we wish to maintain a community fireworks display similar to the one we presented a few weeks ago then we will need to continue with some fundraising efforts throughout the fall and winter. If any of you have any thoughts or plans please let me know. I have heard nothing but positive comments about the 2013 show and I would love for our fire department to continue to provide that quality of show to the community in future years. Again, thank you all for your commitment and participation.
Regards,
