Reading Up The Santa Fe Trail

Bent's Fort

Bent’s Fort

Winter is a great time to catch up on your reading about the Santa Fe Trail. But…which books should you read? There is no shortage of books about the Trail. A recent search on Amazon found 8,502 trail books for sale.

There are guide books, old and new, plus diaries, autobiographies, histories, books about plants and animals, books for children, books about Indians, trappers, traders, freighters, wagons, mules, oxen, and horses, and just about anything you can imagine connected to the Trail and its history.

On February 13th, the Bent’s Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will offer a program discussing what books to read. Scholars, authors, and trail aficionados will share their favorite selections and all attendees can ask questions and offer up their own choices. Everyone is invited to bring books to lend or give away.

The panel discussion will start at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, at the Lamar, Colorado, Cultural Events Center, 102 East Parmenter (corner Hwy 287 and Parmenter), Lamar, CO. Lunch- chili, soup, side dishes – will be available for only $5.00. Please RSVP to Dottie, 719-336-2213.

This event is free and open to the public.
