Graveside memorial service for Fredericka Carolyn (Skeet) Briggs, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 at Fort Lyon National Cemetery, Pastor Rod Coulter will officiate. Military committal rights will be provided by VFW Post #2411 and American Legion District #1 Post #6. 

Fredericka, affectionately known to many as Gretchen, was born on March 1, 1914 in Lawrence, Kansas to Arthur E. and Gertrude (Bruechmueller) Skeet, and passed away on September 28, 2015, in Pueblo, Colorado. 

Gretchen was raised just outside Las Animas, Colorado on a sheep farm where she worked just as hard as any man. She entered the United States Navy in 1941 serving as a storekeeper until she was honorably discharged in December of 1945. While stationed at Mare Island in Vallejo, California, Gretchen met Sylvan Whitaker “Ted” Briggs. Ted and Gretchen married in Nevada in 1945, a union that lasted 59 years. They returned to Las Animas, Colorado until 1967, when they decided to call Federal Way, Washington home. Ted and Gretchen once again returned to Colorado in 2001, to reside with their son Neil and his wife Vickie Briggs in Olney Springs, Colorado.  

Fredericka “Gretchen”, is survived by her son, Neil (Vickie) Briggs; daughter, Linda (Jerry) Hall; grandsons, Troy and James Briggs; granddaughters, Brandie and BeeBee Briggs; great grandson, Allen Jackson; great granddaughters, Veronica Jackson and Aurora Briggs; and great-great grandchildren, Audrey Leitner, Jackson Leitner, and Lily Jackson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Sylvan “Ted” Briggs on January 8, 2004.
