Letter to the Editor: GFWC Convention in Lamar

Post Office 2

Dear Editor:

The GFWC Colorado Federation of Women’s Clubs held their 120th Annual State Convention at the Cow Palace, April 30-May 2.  Fifty- seven women from around Colorado came not only for the convention but to celebrate 120 years of women living the volunteer spirit in their communities.  We thank the CFWC Plains District Clubs, including Sorosis of Lamar Woman’s Club, Granada Women’s Civic, Rye Woman’s Club, Crook, Walsenburg and MSA Stratton for hosting the most successful meeting and for the warm welcome Lamar gave to all of us. Thank you for showing us such a wonderful time and providing a home for this historic meeting. The Colorado Federation of Women’s Clubs say a special thank you to:

Pat Palmer for driving the bus to Amache and sharing historical information on Southeast Colorado,

Mr. John Hopper from Granada High School for opening the Amache Museum and sharing interesting historical information,

The First Christian Church for providing transportation to Amache,

Kyle Kurtz for arranging for the tree planting ceremony,

Lamar Cub Scout Pack 223 for the color guard,

Mayor Roger Stagner for the welcoming address,

Rebecca Atkinson for the look at the historical side of women in Southeast Colorado in the 1800’s,

Mr. Bob Seay and the Lamar High School Notables for the serenade during dinner Friday night, and

The Cow Palace staff for a friendly and attentive experience that met all of our needs.

We look forward to visiting your area again in the future!

Mary Beth Williams
