Chamber Hosts Small Business Saturday & Holiday Festivities

Lamar, CO – The Lamar Chamber Merchants are kicking off the holiday shopping season with “Small Business Saturday”.  Area merchants will be offering specials that day to encourage residents to shop locally and take advantage of what Lamar has to offer.  “We really have a lot of opportunities for finding unique gifts right here at home to give for the holidays,” said Lisa Thomas, Lamar Chamber of Commerce President.  “The local merchants have come together to make holiday shopping a true hometown affair.”  Small Business Saturday is November 29th.  If you are on Facebook, please like the “Lamar Chamber” for more details on specials that will be offered, check out our website at lamarchamber.com, or you can contact the Chamber directly for more information at 336-4379.

Beginning on Friday, December 5th, the Lamar Chamber Merchants will host the “Festival of Lights” with shopping specials all day before the Parade of Lights.  The Parade of Lights on Main Street will begin at 6:30 Friday evening.  The parade route will begin at Parkway and end at the Enchanted Forest for the lighting of the forest and visits with the Guest of Honor – Santa Claus.  Santa’s Train will be in operation for rides for the children and their families.  Lamar Chamber Merchants will have their shops open until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening with special holiday offers and to welcome all of the spectators that come to enjoy this annual community tradition. Contact the Chamber to register your float for participation in the parade.  This year’s theme for the Parade of Lights is “Enchanted Winterland.”

The Enchanted Forest will be an active site on every Saturday before Christmas beginning on Saturday, December 6th.  Prowers Medical Center will host the first fun filled day in the forest, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and initiate the holiday Enchanted Forest Revitalization activities.  There will be train rides through the forest, Christmas crafts for the children, hot cocoa to help everyone stay warm and, of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to greet everyone and have photographs taken.   Parents are encouraged to bring their cameras or you can purchase a professional portrait taken by local photographer, Tye Arbogast.

On Saturday, December 6th at 1:30, Wolves Den Events will host “Bark in the Park” dog pageant to begin at 2:00 p.m.  The pageant is open to dogs of all sizes, and prizes will be given to the Best Dressed, Best Trick, and Best in Show categories.  All canine entries will receive a Certificate of Participation and there is a small entry fee of five dollars for each pet.  Rosetta Bone Canine Coaching will be on hand to answer your questions about dog obedience and there will be information to share with everyone about the Second Chance Animal Rescue.  More information can be found at prowersevents.com.

The Enchanted Forest holiday activities will be in operation every Saturday in December, before Christmas.  Several local organizations will host events including time with Santa and Mrs. Claus, operating Santa’s Train, and having fun activities for the kids each Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Other organizations that will be hosting time in the forest are Colorado East Bank & Trust; Lamar Estates with Lamar Girl Scouts Troop #30108; Lamar Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary; High Plains Community Health Center; and, the Granada Police Department.  Lamar Chamber of Commerce will release a full schedule of events very soon.
