Nancy Jane (King) Turner…May 9, 1926- -April 24, 2014

Nancy Jane (King) Turner, of Denver, CO, passed away on April 24, 2014.  Nancy was born in Denver, CO, on May 9, 1926, the daughter of Edward C. King and Mary-Jess King.  Her brother, Neil C. King, lives in Boulder, CO.

The King family moved to Boulder in 1941 when her father was appointed Dean of the University of Colorado Law School.  Nancy attended Boulder High School where she graduated in two years in an accelerated program during WWII.  Nancy loved s[ports and was a good athlete, playing competitive golf and tennis.  She attended the University of Colorado where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority.  She was a Phi Beta Kappa honorary society member.

In 1947 Nancy married Terry Turner and moved to Colby, Kansas, where Terry was in the livestock business.  They eventually moved to Lamar, CO, where Nancy taught school and was active in city government.  She was on the Lamar City Council for six years becoming the first female Mayor of Lamar during her last term.  Terry was a sheep and cattle man owning Lamar Feed Yard and was part owner of the Valley State Bank.

In addition to spending time at the golf course and tennis courts, Nancy had a passion for learning, reading and writing.  Above all else, Nancy was a devoted mother and grandmother.  Nancy and Terry had four children:  Bruce, Ann, David and Larry.  She is survived by two of her children, Ann and Larry, and by three grandchildren, Sheree (Turner) Creviston, Colby Turner, and Jacklyn Turner.  She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
