Library Craft Night a Success

On Wednesday, January 29th, Lamar Public Library staff members Shandra Esquivel and Kelsey Thomas showed off their skills with a two hour craft bonanza!

Shandra opened the evening with a No Sew T-Shirt tote tutorial, Kelsey closed the evening with a lesson on how to create a floral embellishment.

DIY (Do It Yourself) craft projects are a favorite among our library staff members; often providing an outlet for reusing and recycling materials that would otherwise be disposed of.

Contrary to popular belief, the main reason for DIY crafting is not (or should not be) about saving money. While this is possible in many cases there are other, far better reasons; knowledge, new skills, and the enormous feeling of satisfaction that comes from creating. For younger people, the skills learned will be invaluable as they progress through life.

Each and every new skill you absorb enables the learning processes to be ‘exercised’, making it easier to digest new things that come your way.

All programs are currently free, however the library accepts donations that go toward our program fund. It’s with your generous donations that we may continue offering our community these wonderful opportunities.
