The Buzzards Roost in Lamar has been owned and operated for seven years this coming December by Jay D. Gruber and with help from Karen. The manager of the business is Linda Wooddell as well as daytime bartender, who has been in that same building for twenty-eight years. It was formally known as Pat Sue Bar. Linda is very well known for her homemade Bloody Marys. She is the oldest known bartender in this area. Her husband, Richard, helps her and us with a lot of things around the bar. We have a wonderful staff of three bartenders: Jenna Delarosa, Gina Qualls and John Hernandez, always ready to get in and help with whatever we might have going on. We are very thankful to have such wonderful help.

There has been a lot of remodeling done over the years, including new flooring, walls, paint and all new restrooms. When remodeling the restrooms, we tiled and made mosaic’s to put on the wall in the men’s room, and we will soon be doing that in the women’s restroom. The past two years we added a kitchen. We make our own homemade pizzas, calzones, wings, sub sandwiches and more. Jay worked at Pizza Hut when he was in high school and afterwards before entering the construction business. He’s familiar with cooking a pizza and has always wanted to have his own place to make pizzas. We will make them for you to either dine in or to go.

I have a love for music and that was one reason why I wanted to purchase the bar, so people could come out and enjoy live music and have a clean, comfortable place to be able to go to. I have my own band, “JUDI” with Cody Cline, Brandon Grogan and myself. We offer live music every other weekend or a live DJ. There are other bands that play if we are not in and they usually come from out of town to perform.

In 2010 KDM Productions, LLC filmed a video at The Buzzards Roost and Wiley called “Pour Me” by Kevin Mauch of Wiley. You can watch it on our facebook at Buzzards Roost. We have two pool tables and several flat screen TV’s for all your sports events.

This past June we had our first Country Jam and we have produced Road Jam for the past six years. We have bands come in from all over to perform for this event. With permission from the city, we block off the street, put up a stage, bring out picnic tables, canopies and have a street dance. People look forward to it every year, coming in from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado. We have had and welcome birthday parties, family and class reunions and all types of get-togethers. We enjoy seeing people that have been here on their regular trips through Lamar.

Our hours are from 10am to 2am Monday through Friday and 8am to 2am Saturday and Sunday. Call The Buzzards Roost at 719-336-7415.
