New Sound System Going into Lamar Community Building

“Yes, we can hear you now”, should be the response from the audience at the Lamar Community Building now that a new sound system has been installed.

Technicians from Listen-Up Audio from Denver has been in Lamar this week, rewiring the gym’s ceiling and hanging ten brand new speakers from the rafters. Rick Akers, city Leisure Services Director, said the new system has been needed for some time. He informed the city council June 13, that the old system was not doing the job and needed replacing. Akers said in the past, people would go into the system and tune it the way they wanted to, and that practice would not be possible with the new system. He said the Listen Up technicians would install and fine tune the speaker system and then lock the panel so no one had access to it.

The technicians said the system can be pre-set for specific events, depending on background or crowd noise, or if the event is taking place on the gym floor, or should the speakers above the stands needed to be activated. Four speakers are placed to broadcast to the stands, another four to the bleachers and two speakers are directly over the gym floor. The system cost around $25,000 and was included in this year’s city budget.
