Nice and Easy for Bluegrass Friday Jam Session

This past Friday, June 10, was the opening evening for the annual Holly Free Bluegrass Festival. It was one of the nicer ways to wind down a week of activity, sitting in a lawn chair, talking with friends and watching other friends on stage, or in front of it, perform some of their favorite tunes for the audience. It wasn’t a huge crowd, but a good setting for watching the evening approach, enjoying a Commercial Club BBQ meal of sloppy joes and baked beans, and watching some later arrives fill up the crowd as more and more performers arrived to unpack their guitar, banjo, fiddle or zither, find and spot and join in the songs.

Saturday’s line up was more planned out, with five acts on hand for the day, starting at 11am with the Bluegrass Souls, followed by the String Dudes, Stanleytones, Atomic Fireballs, and Palmer Divide. Each group had an opportunity for a repeat performance, coupled with various food and display booths, set up by Holly high school classes and other organizations.
